The European Champion and World Championship silver medalist discus thrower, Róbert Fazekas’case was on trial by the Hungarian Anti-Doping Committee on 2nd October, 2012. According to the committee’s decision Róbert Fazekas did not used any banned performance-enhancing drugs deliberately. Exiguous amount of stanozolol was found in his system by neglect, therefore his first degree sentence was overruled and reduced to a 6-year suspension from competition.
In the committee’s explanation of their verdict: Róbert Fazekas has proved dependably that his system was exposed by stanozolol by taking a nutritional supplement that is legally available in retail stores. Samples from the exact bottle of the supplement, taken by Róbert Fazekas, and from a randomly bought, sealed bottle of the same brand of supplement were tested in an Austrian accredited laboratory by the Hungarian Anti-Doping Group. The A and the B test from the samples of both the opened and the sealed bottles resulted the same level of stanazolol.

Róbert Fazekas was a potential medal winner at the Olympic Games in London. His participation was banned from the Hungarian team unlawfully. His proceeding started on 6th August, 2012 and ended on 12th October, 2012, the time, that was necessary for Róbert Fazekas to prove that he did not use the banned substance deliberately to enhance his performance. The Hungarian Athletics had suffered an invaluable damaged. Róbert Fazekas will seek legal action against the -non Hungarian-nutritional supplement company.
However nothing could make up for him not being able to participate in the Olympic Games in London.

A magyar Dopping Fellebbviteli Bizottság 2012. október 2. napon tárgyalta Fazekas Róbert, Európa-bajnok, világbajnoki ezüstérmes diszkoszvető ügyét. A bizottság határozatában kimondta: Fazekas Róbert nem doppingolt, szándékosság nem terheli, a szervezetébe a csekély mennyiségben kimutatott stanozolol gondatlanságból került, ezért az első fokon kiszabott eltiltását hat évre mérsékelte.
A Dopping Fellebbviteli Bizottság döntését azzal indokolta, hogy Fazekas Róbert hitelt érdemlően bizonyította, hogy az általa fogyasztott, legális úton, kiskereskedelemben beszerezhető táplálékkiegészítőből került szervezetébe a tiltott szer.
A táplálékkiegészítő Fazekas Róbert által használt felbontott, illetve egy felbontatlan, véletlenszerűen megvásárolt mintája került bevizsgálásra a Magyar Antidopping Csoport útján az ausztriai akkreditált kutatólaborban. Az elvégzett A és B mintára is kiterjedő vizsgálat a bontott és a bontatlan termékben is stanazololt mutatott ki.

Fazekas Róbert a londoni olimpia egyik éremesélyes magyar versenyzője lett volna. Részvétele jogellenesen került megakadályozásra. A hivatalosan 2012. augusztus 6. napján megindított eljárás október 12-én fejeződött be. Ennyi idő volt szükséges ahhoz, hogy Fazekas Róbert bizonyítsa, hogy tiltott szert teljesítményfokozásra tudatosan, szándékosan nem használt. A magyar atlétikát ért kár felbecsülhetetlen. A sportoló a szükséges jogi eljárást a táplálékkiegészítőt gyártó – nem magyar – cég ellen meg fogja indítani.
Azonban a londoni dobókörbe állást pótolni semmi nem lesz képes.
